Construction - Sidewalks are to be constructed of Portland cement concrete, unless directed otherwise by the Town of Rocky Hill. Details regarding sidewalks can be found in the Town of Rocky Hill Public Works Manual, the Sidewalk Master Plan, and Code of the Town of Rocky Hill, Chapter 212, and paraphrased below:
The Town shall arrange and provide funding for the construction of all sidewalks on accepted streets and public highways within the Town via grants or the capital improvement program (CIP), except for:
- The cost of construction of public sidewalks in proposed subdivisions of the Town shall be borne by the respective developers.
NOTE: If a developer of a proposed subdivision obtains a sidewalk waiver from the Planning and Zoning Commission, funds in a sufficient amount to construct the walk will be placed in a sidewalk fund for the Town of Rocky Hill.
- The cost of construction of public sidewalks in all business, commercial, and industrial zones shall be borne by the abutting property owners.
(The current cost of a sidewalk based on 2025 bids is $100 per lineal foot.)
Repair - The town performs an inventory of the sidewalk network annually by walking every sidewalk in search of tripping hazards and structural deficiencies. Once enough locations are identified, as part of the CIP, a contractor will be hired to perform necessary repairs. The exception shall be no person shall cause any damage to any public sidewalk. Any person who causes damage to such sidewalk shall pay for the cost of repairing or replacing the same.
