On August 24, the Sustainable Rocky Hill Task Force met to discuss our ongoing efforts to get Rocky Hill to Silver in our SustainableCT Certification. You can watch our meeting here!
- Statement on Equity (Action 1.3)
The Town Council agreed in their August 21 session to review language around a statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion by the end of the year. The Commission on Inclusion and Innovation will draft a statement. The Task Force is eager to support as desired.
- Increase Use of Renewable Energy in Municipal Buildings (Action 7.4)
The Task Force is planning an event to encourage the adoption of green, renewable energy at the municipal and residential level, ideally to happen in October. Details coming soon.
- Reduce and Compost Organic Waste (Action 9.4)
Composting education events: We have a number of composting education events in the works to raise awareness within the town of how to compost your food scraps at home. Look forward to event details!
Composting fundraising campaign: Our Composting fundraising campaign hit its first target! We're now raising money for our stretch goal. Every donation helps us keep more food out of the waste stream and reduce emissions! We're starting to think about how to promote this.
- Healthy, Efficient and Diverse Housing (Action 11)
The town has approved or is in the process of approving a number of actions to build our affordable housing options. The Town Council has approved the creation of an affordable housing committee - soon there will be a way for residents to apply to be a member of this commission. Details coming soon!
We talked about tons of other things. Rain gardens! Swap shops! Our sessions are open to the public so please join us at our next meeting!
