Criminal Investigations Division
The Investigations Division is commanded by Lieutenant Robert Catania. There are three Detectives and one Youth Specialized Detective assigned to this Division. Detectives are specialized investigators who assist the Patrol Division in case investigation of all major crimes and complex crimes that require prolonged investigation or special training and expertise. Two detectives and an officer are assigned to the Mid-State Major Crimes Unit, comprised of the towns of Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, Newington, Berlin and Cromwell. Through area cooperation, this unit has played a significant role in conducting complex criminal investigations in a timely manner and sharing personnel and equipment.
A sample list of the types of investigations and services that the unit provides is:
- Vice and criminal intelligence operations
- Narcotic investigations
- Crime scene processing
- Forensic processing
- Evidence processing and inventory services for the department
- Employee background checks
- Other investigations as needed
